Amazon Seller News: How Amazon Seller Appeals Are Changing
Amazon’s Safe-T is the system that allows Amazon sellers to appeal a refund that has been issued to a purchaser. While Amazon is often quick to side with the customer, their reasons for issuing refunds are not always valid.
Amazon has recently implemented changes to the timelines for processing refunds and Safe-T appeals, creating an important tradeoff for sellers. In this blog, we walk sellers through those changes and the process of filing a Safe-T appeal.
Filing Safe-T Claims on Amazon
The previous system for Amazon’s Safe-T appeals gave sellers 2 days to process refunds and 60 days to request a reimbursement for a returned product based on several conditions:
- The customer abused Amazon’s return policies
- The item returned to you is not materially the same or is unsellable
- The customer never returned the item or claims to have never received despite completed shipment
It is also important to note that sellers must not have granted the refund in order to be eligible for a Safe-T claim. Amazon has been known to issue only partial refunds in many cases and unfortunately, they hold much of the power for final decisionmaking. They also hold strongly that customer experience is paramount to their business and will side with customers in many situations.
Supporting your claim with evidence is vital. We recommend providing documentation of your product’s shipment, any communication with the customer, photos of damaged boxes or products, and information on the return shipment. Even if Amazon is unwilling to fully cover the cost of replacement, every bit of evidence contributes to your appeal and can increase what you receive.
Amazon Seller Policy News: Windows for Safe-T Filing Shrinking
On February 16, 2026, Amazon implemented changes in the timeline for Safe-T claims. Sellers now have only 30 days to file a claim on seller central after the returned product arrives at your warehouse. Amazon’s tradeoff for this is increasing the time you have to process refunds to 4 calendar days before an automated refund kicks in – ending your eligibility for Safe-T.
What this means is you have an additional two days to document issues with the return but significantly less time to file the claim itself. We recommend that sellers set up management that is prepared to deal with refunds as soon as possible to ensure Safe-T eligibility. Because your window for filing claims has been cut in half, your usage of time must be much more efficient to keep on top of processing refunds.
Amazon Sellers Lawyer Helps With Amazon Appeals
Amazon Sellers Lawyer is committed to helping our clients navigate through the problems that arise from dealing with faulty return claims. We have helped our clients prepare Safe-T reports, focusing on finding compelling evidence that supports the case for reimbursement.
Additionally, we are aware of the potential secondary challenges that can arise from high rates of returned orders. Particularly, in the area of customers using false claims about your products in order to be granted a refund. Amazon treats these false claims seriously and is quick to issue listing suspensions before confirming the validity of customer claims. As such, we are prepared to assist clients in navigating potential suspensions through our extensive appeals services.
Suspended Seller Services
Amazon Sellers Lawyer focuses exclusively on e-commerce seller issues and is ready to help you fight listing and account suspensions. Often, sellers find themselves receiving listing suspensions from a singular customer review which claims they were lied to on your product page. Even without verifying this claim, Amazon can hand out suspensions that lose you time and money.
This was the case recently when a client approached us with a suspended listing that was shut down from claims that their primary image did not match up with the product received. We worked closely with the seller to provide evidence that their products were authentic and that the image was the root cause of customer confusion, leading to full product restoration.
