Amazon updating their policies and procedures is not new to any seller. However, those who are using Amazon’s FBA service should be aware that there are changes on the horizon. There will be new rates going into effect on August 30th, 2017. These changes may be the last straw for some sellers, while others may not be too concerned.
Sellers Lookout: New Fees Coming Soon
Sellers sent a warning stating, “MCF fees in the U.S. will be adjusted to reflect the changing costs of fulfillment and to better align with Fulfillment By Amazon’s fee structure for orders placed on Amazon.com. The new rates will go into effect August 30, 2017. We’re notifying you now to give you time to plan for these changes.”
Ina Steiner of ecommercebytes.com commented on the issue stating, “One of the things that are changing: Media will no longer be a separate category. One media seller said they currently pay $2.95/unit and will pay $5.90/unit once the changes take effect.”
But what does this all mean for sellers who use the service? For some, it may be the last straw. The Amazon FBA service has simultaneously caused a sense of relief and anxiety for some sellers. At Amazon Sellers Lawyer, we have seen the mistakes made with FBA be reflected onto the seller. Customers who are dissatisfied with their product, or receive a product late will file a complaint. As sellers are all too familiar, they receive the email and the complaint and then need to redirect the customer to Amazon’s services. Unfortunately, the mistakes made on behalf of FBA can still result in complaints, which can result in suspensions.
When using FBA, it is important to document every item. Take photographs of the condition of the item and be proactive in protecting your business. If a product is damaged, then you will need to show this issue was not caused by a mistake of your own. Sellers should take caution when using any service that is not their own. If you are sending a product to FBA, make sure that the items are secure and not subject to damage. FBA is a system that many sellers favor, however, when using the service it is important for sellers to be aware of the new changes that occur and well as be diligent in protecting their business.
