How Sellers can Prevent Duplicate Listing Violations on the Amazon Platform
Duplicate listings are one of the most often seen violations on sellers’ accounts.
They are often created by other sellers who aren’t authorized to create branded listings.
For example, if you have a Nike product, there might exist a duplicate or multiple listing for the same product that’s not created by the brand.
Two things will often happen with these kind of listings:
First, Amazon will address them by merging or closing those listings. When this happens, you will receive a listing violation on your account.
Second, the brands themselves might try to close the listings by filing complaints against sellers who list duplicates. So in this case, you will most likely receive intellectual property complaints, such as trademark or copyright, related to your listing on a duplicate.
So in order to identify and prevent yourself from listing on duplicates, we recommend that you pay special attention to the brand value on your listings. When you’re listing a product, there’s always the product title, and right underneath the product title is the brand value. Often, this will be a link. If you click on the link, it will either take you to a brand home page, or a brand store page, or to a miscellaneous list of assorted items.
In those cases, you want to make sure your listing has valid brand value that leads to an official and authorized brand store page. When they’re leading to a list of random items, those are often considered a good sign that the listing is a duplicate.
