Amazon Seller Policy Update News: DD+7 Change For Payment Disbursement
Starting on March 12th, 2026, Amazon will be switching all remaining sellers to their Delivery Date + 7 program. This may have a major impact on how many sellers are able to secure sourcing for their products while waiting for funds to disburse.
In this blog, we discuss the changes with payment disbursement and how that could affect sellers in the coming months. We also cover options for Amazon sellers who are seeing their funds held for investigation of violating Amazon’s policies.
Amazon Seller News: What Is Amazon Delivery Date + 7
The Delivery Date + 7 program is Amazon’s new standard for payment disbursement. Payment is now held from sellers until after the 7th day of a product’s confirmed delivery. This gives customers time to inspect products and review whether they will request a refund before money leaves your account.
While this sounds like a standard policy, sellers should be aware that this could have a major impact on sourcing if their delivery times are longer than average. For example, a seller shipping products that take 10 days to deliver will not receive payment for their product for at least 17 days, leading to potential holdups in ability to source new products for your warehouse.
The reasons behind this change mainly seem to be linked to better customer experience for shoppers on Amazon at the cost of flexibility for sellers. DD+7 encourages sellers to use shipping options that get products to customers as quickly as possible, while punishing sellers that relied on previous disbursement options to maintain their supply.
Amazon is recommending all sellers ensure ample cash is available during the migration period in March. This is because the change to DD+7 may disrupt typical cash flow, leading to more problems with sourcing for some sellers.
Can Sellers Opt Out of Amazon DD+7?
From what we have seen so far, it is not an option for all sellers to opt out of the coming changes. Amazon may be sending out invitations to remain on your current program for disbursement, but few have reported this on Amazon’s seller forums.
Amazon Withholding Funds From Sellers
This change is not the only example of Amazon’s increasing willingness to hold seller funds for the benefit of the customer. Product suspensions are seeing more and more freezes to seller accounts for Amazon to process refunds. Amazon has the ability to do this because of the Business Solutions Agreement (BSA) that you agreed to when you became a seller.
When your funds are frozen for a suspended product, Amazon places a hold for at least 90 days then can extend the freeze with justification. It is important to appeal your suspension as Amazon can indefinitely hold your funds while the product remains under investigation. Eventually, however, they are required to release funds, but they often will not do so without putting up a fight.
Can I Sue Amazon to Release My Withheld Funds?
Amazon’s BSA limits the litigation you can take in the courtroom and requires seller disputes to be resolved through arbitration. Arbitration is a private legal proceeding where attorneys make arguments and an arbitrator issues a legally binding decision. For sellers who are unsuccessful at securing a release of funds through POAs, arbitration is a potential next step.
Arbitration requires legal representation and preparation of formal arguments, but has had great success in bringing Amazon’s higher ups to the negotiating table. By moving the case to Amazon’s legal department through the threat of arbitration, they may decide it is in their best interest to release your funds without a fight. Arbitration does not guarantee successful results, but does offer the opportunity to present your evidence to an independent third party.
